The inspiration for this scent:
"In 1555, the Swiss naturalist Conrad Gessner went caving in the Alps and discovered Moonmilk - the creamy pearlescent substance that leaks from limestone and dolomite. Moved by its beauty, he wrote, 'At night, the moon shines into the cave so brightly the light itself seems to take form like a mist. It gathers in the ceiling and makes the limestone stalactites glitter and gleam, dripping tears of white liquid into puddles on the rock floor.'"
What we think:
Moonmilk has nice immediately recognizable mysore sandalwood from the beginning! It works really well with the spice, kind of like how it does in Santal de Mysore by Serge Lutens. Not that this smells like that overall, but both use mysore sandalwood in a very nice way with spice. This type of sandalwood is creamy and smooth, not like pencil shavings. Clean and relaxing yet with a calm elegance to it as well.
Although the spices are present, to us this is very smooth overall, without sharp edges, and there's a cooling effect to it. The lime here isn't sharp at all either, and just adds a little breeze to it. Leather comes in more by the drydown.
Very versatile for wearing across most weather, just maybe not in extreme heat. Also an easy wear for both casual and formal occasions. Nice!
