Our DS & Durga Deep Dark Vanilla Review:

We really like Deep Dark Vanilla! The vanilla here is indeed deep and rich, not like a cloying synthetic stereotypical vanilla. We're fans of vanilla in all forms, but if you're looking for one that's more of an authentic vanilla pod and not the typical sweeter accord, we think this does a great job.

The hay is very noticeable right from the beginning, which works so well with the vanilla. There's a green feel, but it's not dewy - more of an earthy style; like dry green leaves covered in dusted vanilla, in an intriguing and nice way. The kind of patchouli here, despite being listed as "dark patchouli" on the brand product page, is the kind we can tolerate even as patchouli haters. (Note though: it is very present!)

We really enjoy how central the hay is, and how the scent has shadows to it that keep it interesting while still smelling good. Apparently a lot of people find it smoky or earthy in a way that doesn't work for them - so if you're looking solely for a sweet vanilla scent, it might not be for you. But if you like the idea of an authentic vanilla, hay, and patchouli mix, we think this smells great!
